Last summer we did a day trip with my Dad and the girls to the town of Lovech, known as ‘The Town of Lilacs’ and situated in north-central Bulgaria on the Osŭm River.
The fortress in Lovech sits a top the Hisarya hill in the old part of Lovech town. It was built during Roman times and is mostly known for the Lovech Peace Treaty with the Byzantine Empire that was signed in 1187, it marked the beginning of the Second Bulgarian Empire. The fortress was one of the last to fall to the Ottomans.
The Covered Bridge, one of the most recognizable symbols of the town, there only being three other bridges like it in Europe.
