Days before we left Chiang Mai we visited Elephant Jungle Sanctuary. We booked a half day visit, since we had two little ones with us and it was plenty of time. We were picked up about 7am and dropped off at about 1:30pm. It’s an 1.5 drive to and from the Sanctuary.
The day consists of learning about the Elephants, wearing traditional Karen clothing, meeting and feeding them. There was a week old baby when we visited which was super cute! Emma was really wary of the Elephants and did not like being near them, even the baby, so Michael and I took turns feeding the Elephants.
After feeding the elephants we walked down to the mud ‘spa’, where the elephants were lathered in mud. Emma and Michael got in the mud but Millie was not as keen so we just watched. Once the Elephants (and people) were nice and muddy we moved over to the water where everyone washed and swam with the elephants. To end the trip we had a group lunch.
It was a great day and I highly recommend a visit to anyone visiting Chiang Mai. At the time we went, this is the only sanctuary that offers half days. www.elephantjunglesanctuary.com
